Economic Development

The Capital Region Planning Commission provides economic development support for the eleven parish region.

CRPC receives an annual grant from the Economic Development Administration. This grant enables CRPC to provide economic development technical and planning assistance to parishes and municipalities. CRPC produces an annual updated Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). This CEDS report provides important demographic and statistical information for the region and sets economic development goals and objectives. It provides a snap-shot of the region as it is today and shows comparisons to the past.

CRPC assist parishes and communities in completing EDA grant applications. EDA grants are distributed on sound research-based, market-driven economic development policy, which is considered the foundation for effective and efficient economic development program implementation. EDA continues to target resources in economically distressed communities; however, in order to achieve the highest return on the taxpayers investment, EDA will stress investments that drive economic growth.

Priority will be given to proposals that:
  • Enhance regional competitiveness and support long-term development of the regional economy.
  • Help communities plan and implement economic adjustment strategies in response to sudden and severe economic dislocations.
  • Support technology-led economic development and reflect the important role of linking universities, industry and technology transfers./li>
  • Advance community and faith-based social entrepreneurship in redevelopment strategies for areas of chronic economic distress.
